Retired wood boatbuilder. Hobby furniture maker. I love to think outside the box and I love to do things I've never tried before. Almost every project I start involves design as you go flexibility and at least a couple of things that I hope I can accomplish but that I'm not sure I can. I try to use local hardwoods when I can rather than commercial "store bought" material. I like that it gives a feeling of heritage to the piece.

As I get older my eyes seem to require more and more light to see fine detail. That is a problem when cutting on the chevalet, especially when cutting piece by piece (classic) style where line following is critical. After trying all sorts of floor...
Fine woodworking is not all about beautiful boxes and handsome furniture. Some of my favourite examples of fine woodworking float and transport their owners to far away places to boot. Last weekend I had the pleasure to take part in the annual Por...
Oops! Double post.
I can heave a sigh of relief now. The client just came and picked up the tables this afternoon and she loved them. Like all of us, I am never really completely satisfied and always see flaws but she was thrilled and we’re talking about her n...
